Sergeant, Larry Mason had worked for the Boulder Police department for about 18 years.

On January 5, 1997 officials placed Mason on administrative leave for allegedly leaking information about the Ramsey case to the media.

Officials reported that previously they had planned to reassign Mason to the department's patrol division in mid-January, authorities said.

On June 10, 1997, Mason issued the notice to the city, saying Cmdr. John Eller knowingly made false accusations against him causing him unnecessary stress. Mason and his wife, Cecilia Anne Mason, both of Lyons, were seeking $150,000 in damages.

Mason's Denver attorney, Marc F. Colin, stated in the notice, ``Commander Eller initiated false complaints against Sergeant Mason either with the intent to aggravate these already stressful circumstances.''

An internal investigation later cleared Mason of the charges and on December 9, 1997 the city will pay $10,000 to Larry Mason and his wife.

The aggreement also stipulates that Mason and his wife, Cecilia, agree never to sue the city or Commander John Eller, former head of the Ramsey ivestigation, over the alleged leak.
