July 24, 2008

(Video transcribed by www.acandyrose.com)

REPORTER: About when did you stop first believing in Drew?

LENNY WAWCZAK: Ah, it would proably be a couple weeks after Stacy went mising, right around mid, mid November.

REPORTER: You were initially believing him so what change our mind?

LENNY: Well initially when he called, I believed in him you know he was a friend. It was just the way he was acting you know, ah, going out his back door, crawling through his back yard, waiting, I was sitting there in a van waiting to pick him up. Why would somebody do that you know. Then he would come over here, originaly the grand jury was Wednesdays and he would come over here on Wednesday around 3 o'clock and just sit and then about four thirty, five o'clock he'd start making his phone calls to talk to various people who had been at the grand jury and once he found out a certain someone wasn't called in then he would hang up and say that's good, at least I got one more week. He always kept tabs like that, you know what I mean and then he was in here he was pacing. You know if you ever hear, you heard the saying if you look gulty, well Drew did, he looked guilty.

REPORTER: So he thought he was going to get arrested?

LENNY: Yeah definately, you know like I said it was every Wednesday and he was here faithfully and he would start making his phone calls and I'm not so sure Drew knew exactly how the grand jury totally worked because he would always find out who was there, for instance he would get off the phone and I'd say who was that and he'd say it was Carcerano and that they didn't call him in again and a then he would say plus my son Steve but he's not going because he's going on vacation so that buys me at least another week so, and it was just things like that, you know what I mean. He did not act like the typical husband you know that should be grieving his wife.

REPORTER: What was he acting like?

LENNY: Guilty. I mean that was it, Drew looked guilty. Ah, he came over one time, was dog beat tired, I mean you could see it. He laid down on the couch and couldn't have been out for more than 2 minutes and he jumped up fiercely. You know, I mean there was just many things that made me started thinking somethings not right with this guy.

REPORTER: And then you decide to start working with the police. Tell me about that decision and how you started working with the police.

LENNY: Well, you know they wanted me to go, you know, do a polygraph test

REPORTER: Did you?

LENNY: Oh yeah, no problem, went down, they asked if they could come, when they came to talk to me they wanted to, after they were done they asked if I minded if they searched the garage, not at all go ahead, they did. And then when were standing out front and they said well if we need anything else we'll get back with ya and I said hey whatever you need. Well the next day they stopped back and they wanted to know if I would do, you know a polygraph, me and Paula both. I agreed to it, Paul didn't, ah, I went and did it, no problem, they said you know, everything was good.

REPORTER: What were they asking you?

LENNY: Ah they would ask me stuff like ah, the guy was saying he had to get a baseline so he would ask me like is your name Len, you know where a arew we in Joliet, and then he would say you know do you know the whereabouts of Stacy Peterson, No, Did you help dispose of Stacy Peterson, No, Did you ever, you know, and everything went fine.

REPORTER: So they approached you or you approached them first?

LENNY: They approached us. See we just waited figuring they'd get a hold of us sooner or later.
