1 TAPED TRANSCRIPT OF JONATHAN DALY
2 INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY DETECTIVE RIVEA
3 CASE NUMBER - 08-069208
4 JULY 17, 2008
5 PR - DETECTIVE JEROLD WHITE
6 JD - MS. JONATHAN DALY
7 PR: This is Detective Rivera with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Today's date is
8 July 17, 2008. The time is 1834 hours. I'm here investigating case 08-069208.
9 I'm here present with, please state your name?
10 JD: Jonathan Daly.
11 PR: Okay, Jonathan, Uhm, you, you're a pretty close friend of uh, Casey?
12 JD: Yeah (affirmative).
13 PR: Casey Anthony, right?
14 JD: Uh-hum (affirmative).
15 PR: How long have you known her?
16 JD: Uhm, well my brother went to high school with her and met her just maybe fore I
17 was going to high school, eighth grade, uhm, uhm, shoot, I don't know. Probably
18 somewhere between six and eight years I guess.
19 PR: Okay.
20 JD: Just off the top of my head.
21 PR: Alright and uh, she used to come here to get...
22 JD: Uh-hum (affirmative).
23 PR: ... tattoos ....
24 JD: Yeah (affirmative).
25 PR: ... and all that? When was the last time you saw her?

1
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 JD: Uhm, (sighs), it's been a couple weeks. Uh, she came in, my brother was getting,
2 tattooed and she came in just to hang out. Uh, a couple of our friends did. And I
3 seen her then maybe over two weeks. Just off the top of my head, you know,
4 guessing again.
5 PR: She got, when she got her tattoo?
6 JD: Yeah (affirmative), I wasn't here for that. I was actually, I do, well I work a
7 second job.
8 PR: Oh, okay.
9 JD: So I was actually out of town when she got it done.
10 PR: But you saw her here?
11 JD: (Inaudible) ....
12 PR: Or at another place?
13 JD: Yeah (affirmative), I, I saw her here before then. It was a couple days uh, before
14 she got tattooed. She was here hanging out and she set up the appointment
15 then to get tattooed.
16 PR: So a couple days before she got her tattoo?
17 JD: Correct.
18 PR: When was the last time you saw her daughter?
19 JD: How many times have I seen Caylee?
20 PR: Oh, no, how long, how long, when was the last time?
21 JD: Oh, uhm, (sighs), I want to say her birthday, her second birthday.
22 PR: And when was this?
23 JD: It's been a while. Uhm, probably at least nine, ten months ago I think. I believe
24 her birthday is October, November, but I can't, I can't remember exactly.
25 PR: At her birthday?

2
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 JD: Uh-hum (affirmative).
2 PR: Okay, uhm, do you guys usually hang out recently?
3 JD: Uhm,(sighs), not so much recently. The last time we hung out, we usually have
4 like parties and stuff over at my house.
5 PR: Uh-hum (affirmative).
6 JD: Uhm, it might have been a couple months ago, like we where we really like hung
7 out. Other than that I've seen her occasionally. Uh, just a couple times.
8 PR: But you guys were pretty close?
9 JD: Yeah (affirmative).
10 PR: Uh, dated at one point?
11 JD: More in like high school and stuff. More like that. A little bit more ...
12 PR: Okay.
13 JD: ...when we used to, you know, when nobody really had jobs ...
14 PR: Okay.
15 JD: ... and we were working full-time where we had time to hang out. It's mostly then.
16 PR: And uh, she started hanging out with another type of crowd, or ...
17 JD: Uhm ....
18 PR: ... another group of friends?
19 JD: Yeah (affirmative). As far as I know uhm, for the last year, year and a half I've
20 been working two jobs.
21 PR: Uh-hum (affirmative).
22 JD: So I haven't been about to really hang out with every as much. But from what,
23 you know, my really close friends and stuff like that say, you know, like she's
24 become like you know, some what distant. Like hanging out with people that
25 none of us really know.

3
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 PR: Oh, uh, and (unintelligible) been going on for the past months?
2 JD: Yeah (affirmative).
3 PR: Or one month, two month, three month?
4 JD: Uh, I don't know exactly.
5 PR: So she'd be hanging around with people (inaudible).
6 JD: Just that none of us really know.
7 PR: Okay.
8 JD: I mean even though like even with that being said, like any time I've seen her you
9 know, since then like she's just acted like normal Casey. Not a care in the world.
10 She's always been like that. She's always been like the mother figure in the
11 group. Like, hey, you shouldn't be doing this. Hey, you shouldn't be doing that.
12 PR: How's her relationship? Do you think it was, how was your relationship with uh,
13 her daughter, Caylee?
14 JD: From, I mean obviously, you know, with, you current events and life, like you
15 can't tell you know, on face value, but....
16 PR: Uh-hum (affirmative).
17 JD: ... any time I've ever seen her with Caylee she's been an amazing mother. Like
18 totally, completely bonded together, just you know, a great mom. Just, just.. ..
19 PR: Nothing negative? Nothing odd?
20 JD: No.
21 PR: Nothing that.. ..
22 JD: That's the craziest part ....
23 PR: ... any ....
24 JD: ... of all of ....
25 PR: ... any comments that you might have heard?

4
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 JD: No. That's the weirdest part about all this for everybody. Like if any of us had to,
2 if somebody said, hey, you know, out of everybody you know who is going to be
3 in this situation, Casey Anthony would never come to mind to me. She would
4 never come to mind.
5 PR: Okay. Huh. Do you know who her current boyfriend is?
6 JD: No. Uhm, I've heard the name like Ricardo. That, not from her, but like from
7 other people. And as far as I know nobody really knows him either, you know.
8 Maybe in like the people that she's been hanging out with recently. You know,
9 he might be friends with everybody else. But like us, none of us know him
10 personally.
11 PR: Okay. Anything that you think might be important for this investigation?
12 JD: That's, that's the thing, like I can't think of anything that's been out of the
13 ordinary.
14 PR: Okay.
15 JD: You know it's so beyond everybody that she's just completely fine with everything
16 and if Ju ... June 9th is the last time Caylee's been seen like how is she okay with
17 that? You know, like she's acting completely normal.
18 PR: June 9th what?
19 JD: Well isn't that they day they're saying like that's the last time she's been seen, or
20 that's when she dropped her off or something like that?
21 PR: Yeah (affirmative).
22 JD: Yeah (affirmative), like I mean if that's the case I've seen her two or three times
23 just like on occasion here at the shop. And she's acted completely normal
24 (inaudible).
25 PR: And that was when, back when? Oh, you mean Casey?

5
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 JD: Uh-hum (affirmative), yeah (affirmative).
2 PR: And that was when?
3 JD: Uhm, between June 9th and now I've seen her probably two or three times just
4 here like hanging out and stuff maybe once or twice. I don't know exactly.
5 But yeah (affirmative), she's acted completely normal in that time frame.
6 PR: But you told me the last time you saw her was a couple days before getting the
7 tattoo?
8 JD: Yeah (affirmative), which was what, two and a half weeks ago?
9 PR: Okay.
10 JD: so within the last month and a half, because June 9th is what, over a month,
11 right?
12 PR: She's hanging around? Okay.
13 JD: Yeah (affirmative), like you know, just that she comes in. Because all my friends,
14 I grew up around here. Like all my friends and my brother, we all started getting
15 tattooed here ...
16 PR: Yeah (affirmative).
17 JD: ... when we were real young. So we've been coming in here for years. And then
18 when I started working here ....
19 PR: So you a couple times in June and by the end of, a couple days, maybe June 1st,
20 May, the end of May .....
21 JD: Between that date of like June 9th and today I've seen her probably two or three
22 times.
23 PR: Okay, yeah (affirmative).
24 JD: And that's just (inaudible).
25 PR: So, so it could have been the end of June, the beginning of July?

6
Daly, Jonathan/Case #08-D69208/GG

1 JD: Sure, that works.
2 PR: Yeah (affirmative). Okay. And you swear that all the statements you've made
3 today are true and correct?
4 JD: Yes, I do.
5 PR: And the time is 1841 hours and this concludes this interview.
6 End of recorded statement.
