Evidence - Stungun Video

---

NOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER: When the subject of the reportedly discovered stun gun video tape found in the Ramsey house after the murder, John Ramsey subsquently writes regarding the video in his book (03/18/2000), "Death of Innocence" Page 195, "I remember that Patsy and I had attended a Super Bowl game in Miami in 1994 as guest of Sun Microsystems." Again during the June 1998 BPD Interviews when asked where the video came from, John states (Transcript Page 0468) "We were in Coral Gables for the, as a guest of Sun Microsystems for the Superbowl that was played in Miami. They lost. '93, '94, something back in there."

The years 1993 or 1994 do not jive as to when the Ramseys claim they went to the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida because the Super Bowl was not in Miami, Florida during those two years. However the Super Bowl was in Miami on January 29, 1995. So if it was during that Super Bowl Sunday trip to Miami that John and Patsy visited the spy shop and were given the video then that was in January 1995. This concludes that the stun gun video tape did not sit in a drawer at the Ramsey house for two to three years but more like one year.

Super Bowl History References:

1993 Super Bowl XXVII, Date Played: January 31, 1993, Teams: Dallas Cowboys vs. Buffalo Bills, Winner: COWBOYS, Final Score: 52-17, Location: Pasadena, California

1994 Super Bowl XXVIII, Date Played: January 30, 1994, Teams: Dallas Cowboys vs. Buffalo Billsl, Winner: COWBOYS, Final Score: 30-13, Location: Atlanta, Georgia

1995 Super Bowl XXIX, Date Played: January 29, 1995, Teams: San Francisco 49ers vs. San Diego Chargers, Winner: 49ERS, Final Score: 49-26, Location: Miami, Florida

In DOIpg195, John "does not" state that the "first video" was in Spanish. He says the second video they "ordered later" was in Spanish. This is not to say that both videos were not in Spanish but we don't know if the store offered videos in both English and Spanish or even other languages and we don't know if the first and second video were identical.

If the video was produced as an "advertisement" as John states then one would think it was for a specific brand of stun gun or other products from that manufacturer being advertised. So what was the brand? My comments here regarding the video is that John Ramsey claims he has no knowledge of even what a stun gun looks like yet he was in a spy shop where stun guns were sold.

18 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay. Actually that is a
19 stun gun, I think you and John and various
20 people from the DA's office had some
21 discussion --
22 PATSY RAMSEY: Yeah.
23 TRIP DeMUTH: -- last July about a stun
24 gun.
25 PATSY RAMSEY: Right. I don't understand

0548
1 that.
2 TRIP DeMUTH: Did you follow up at all
3 following that discussion last July about stun
4 guns or anything about them?
5 PATSY RAMSEY: No, just that perhaps one
6 might have been used.
7 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay.
8 PATSY RAMSEY: And I never have had one or
9 seen one. First time I've seen one. What,
10 what -- how -- which end is this gun? I mean,
11 it don't look like a gun or anything.
12 TRIP DeMUTH: Yeah, it's -- and we don't
13 have any side views, these are just kind of from
14 either end.
15 PATSY RAMSEY: Okay.
16 TRIP DeMUTH: But do you recall inside the
17 house a video from Spy World?
18 PATSY RAMSEY: I've heard that, yes.
19 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay.
20 PATSY RAMSEY: I have never seen the video.
21 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay.
22 PATSY RAMSEY: And I've never viewed the
23 video.
24 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay. Do you know how that
25 video came to be in the house?
.

0549
1 PATSY RAMSEY: Best I can remember we were
2 on a business trip or some trip in Florida and
3 went out walking around the hotel and there was
4 a shop that carried like cellular phones and
5 hand (inaudible) security kind of things and we
6 stopped, somebody -- it was like a, you know,
7 gadget kind of place and went in and John spoke
8 with them about ability to (inaudible).
9 TRIP DeMUTH: And where were you at the
10 time?
11 PATSY RAMSEY: I was in Florida.
12 TRIP DeMUTH: Do you remember where?
13 PATSY RAMSEY: I think it was Miami.
14 TRIP DeMUTH: Okay. But you never watched
15 it?
16 PATSY RAMSEY: No.
17 TRIP DeMUTH: And so you don't know that
18 John did --
19 PATSY RAMSEY: No.
20 TRIP DeMUTH: -- or not.
21 PATSY RAMSEY: No. I think we just brought
22 it home from the shop or whatever. I didn't
23 even remember it happening until you brought it
24 up.
25 TRIP DeMUTH: Did you make any purchases

0550
1 there, when you got this tape?
2 PATSY RAMSEY: I don't recall making
3 anything, purchasing anything there.

0647
22 MIKE KANE: All right. Um, you
23 have been to Florida, I am sure?
24 JOHN RAMSEY: Uh-hum.
25 MIKE KANE: Have you ever been to

0648
1 Coral Gables?
2 JOHN RAMSEY: We were in Coral
3 Gables for the, as a guest of Sun Microsystems
4 for the Superbowl that was played in Miami.
5 They lost. '93, '94, something back in there.
6 MIKE KANE: Did you ever hear of
7 Spy World?
8 JOHN RAMSEY: Well, that came up,
9 and I couldn't remember for sure the name, but I
10 said you know, one of the questions that came up
11 was a stun gun thing, and I know fundamentally
12 what they are. I don't know that I could draw
13 one for you, but I know what they are. And I
14 was curious where you buy one, where would
15 somebody buy something like that. Somebody said
16 spy shop.
17 We were in Coral Gables and I told
18 these guys, I said -- we were in Coral Gables
19 and we were talking about the street and there
20 was this spy shop that we went into and I was
21 curious about if there was a device that you
22 could buy that you could figure out if your
23 phones were tapped. That had been a big concern
24 about gee, there is a lot of stuff going on in
25 our business, and gee what, you know, what if we

0649
1 are naive and somebody has tapped our phone and
2 really, that could be very damaging to us in
3 other negotiations and so forth.
4 So I went in there specifically
5 asking is there a device like that you can buy
6 and basically the answer I got was no, that's
7 pretty tough to do but do, but here's all the
8 other stuff you can do, and he showed us how you
9 can put bugs in. It's easy to bug something,
10 pretty difficult to find the bug is kind of what
11 I came out of that. It actually made me more
12 worried about what I was worried about.
13 But he gave us a video and said
14 here's a catalog of our stuff and we threw it in
15 our suitcase, we never looked at it, threw it in
16 a drawer, sat there for years. I don't remember
17 when that Superbowl was.
18 LOU SMIT: John, who is we?
19 JOHN RAMSEY: Patsy and I.
20 LOU SMIT: Into the store?
21 JOHN RAMSEY: Yeah, Patsy and I
22 went with, Patsy and I were just together.
23 LOU SMIT: Anybody else with
24 you?
25 JOHN RAMSEY: No, I don't think
.

June 1998 John Ramsey Interrogation by Lou Smit and Mike Kane (Stun Gun Video)

0650
1 so.
2 LOU SMIT: You were with the,
3 what's the name of the --
4 (MULTIPLE SPEAKERS.)
5 JOHN RAMSEY: Well Sun
6 Microsystems was the host, and they had
7 invited us to the Superbowl game that year
8 and they put us in a hotel in Coral
9 Gables.
10 LOU SMIT: So it was just you
11 and Patsy walking together and you just
12 walked by the store?
13 JOHN RAMSEY: I am pretty sure it
14 was just us; yeah, I am sure it was.
15 LOU SMIT: Do you know who
16 else you might have been down there with
17 or that you visited with, because we may
18 want to talk with these people.
19 JOHN RAMSEY: Yes, there's
20 some of the people from Sun Microsystems.
21 A guy named Joe Womack. Stylvan
22 (phonetic) he was there. I am sure
23 (inaudible name). What's his name, Joe
24 Roebuck. He's one of the top people at
25 Sun Microsystems. He was there, we spent

0651
1 some time with him. There was a group of
2 people, probably 60 people were invited.
3 LOU SMIT: Okay, go ahead.
4 Continue?
5 JOHN RAMSEY: But anyway on
6 that, I mean because we talked about that in
7 first of all, I don't know what was on that tape
8 because we hadn't looked at it. I believe the
9 only reason it didn't tossed into the
10 wastebasket is it made into the drawer first.
11 (INAUDIBLE).
12 MIKE KANE: So you never made any
13 purchases there?
14 JOHN RAMSEY: No.
15 MIKE KANE: You were down there
16 later on?
17 JOHN RAMSEY: No.
18 MIKE KANE: (INAUDIBLE) whatever?
19 JOHN RAMSEY: No.
20 MIKE KANE: Did you ever purchase
21 any other type of security, personal security or
22 you know, that kind of genre of --
23 JOHN RAMSEY: (Shaking head).
24 MIKE KANE: -- product line?
25 JOHN RAMSEY: (Shaking head).

0652
1 MIKE KANE: -- from them or anybody
2 else?
3 JOHN RAMSEY: No, I don't think
4 so. Not that I remember.

CHAIN OF EVENTS 2000

[Death of Innocence]2000-03-18: “Death of Innocence” written by John and Patsy Ramsey

DOI Page 195

"Later in July I learned that stun guns could be bought at spy shops. I remember that Patsy and I had attended a Super Bowl game in Miami in 1994 as guest of Sun Microsystems. On Saturday morning we had gone out for a walk in the small village of Coral Gables with no other intentions than doing a little window shopping, and happen to pass by a "spy" shop that sold good for security and monitoring.

Several times in the past I had wondered if a competitor might tap our telephones at the office and get sensitive information that could be used against us in business. (Not that our competitors would do that, but I didn't now that they wouldn't, either) This particular shop in Coral Gables carried hidden cameras, bugging equipment, security devices, and everything under the sun that a person concerned with security might want. I learned that it was not easy to detect a phone tap on a complex phone system, such as the one we had at Access. I also got a sales pitch on some of the other things they had to sell.

As we left, the clerk gave me a videotape catalog to take home. When I returned to Boulder, I threw it into a drawer and completely forgot about the tape. I surmise that as the police went through everything in our house, they found the video catalog, which apparently turned out to have an advertisement for....you got it....stun guns! Not too long after that the police reported to the media that they had found a stun gun "instructional video" in the Ramsey house. So on the one hand they were supporting the stun gun theory, but on the other hand they were not indirectly saying that I had used this weapon on my daughter. Of course, for a period of time the video created a significant uproar and cast further suspicion on me.

Later we got a copy of the video catalog from the store in Coral Gables, and found it was recorded in Spanish! Not only had I never reviewed the tape; if I had I wouldn't have understood it."

[Forums For Justice]2004-01-14: The Bonita Papers-1999 (Stun Gun Video)
From a poster known as "Spade" on the www.forumsforjustice.org forum posted information regarding a person known as "Bonita." Spade wrote: "These are the unedited "notes" of Bonita Sauer, secretary/para-legal to Dan Hoffman. Bonita intended to write a book from the case documents provided to her boss. But Bonita's notes were sold to the tabs by her nephew. Larry Pozner is a partner in the same law firm. I hope he reads his secretary's notes about this case before he runs his mouth about the Ramsey's. (Again) This is a long file, so I suggest copying to your own computer and printing it out. I have checked the important case info and find it accurate, however there is some BS. Please post your questions." On another postings, Spade wrote, "Bonita is the 1st name of the legal secretary who wrote up the Boulder Police reports, mailed them to her nephew in Oregon who in turn double-dealt them to two tabs for $70,000. Bonita had access to all the BPD reports. Keep in mind that Bonita wrote-up her info in 1999"

"STUN GUN

Round marks, consistent with shape of cigarette, found on JB's neck and jaw could have been caused by a stun gun. It was rumored that the Ramseys had a tape on the use of a stun gun."
