Is she really a teacher, Jams? What a scary thought. A definite advantage to homeschooling if you ask me.

Nick Husband - 07:20am Apr 8, 1997 (#2 of 18)

ROFL J.L.!!

J.L. Gray - 08:42am Apr 8, 1997 (#3 of 18)

I'm just SURE I would want her helping my kid pick out a B-O-O-K!!!!!!

I think the killer knocked - no answer, he opened the door, no answer to his yelling, he walked through the first floor before he realized he was alone.

He saw the luggage, realized the family was leaving on a trip and decided to take advantage of this night to live out that fantasy with JonBenet. Realize - at this point he has walked here, there is no car nearby to give him away. In the same thought, he has not planned anything, has no way to take JonBenet from the house, has no place to take the child to. He is in this BIG house and he goes to the basement to wait.

He waits for several hours in that basement. The family returns and finally they are all in bed and the house is quiet.

What has he done in the basement? Maybe he brought JonBenet's suitcase to the basement with him and went through it. Maybe he found the windowless room. I think he wrote the note. Not a real ransom note - he knew he could not take her out - no car, no place to take her. But he was waiting and there was the pad and pen. He wrote the note simply as an exercise in fantasy. Length would be no problem. While he started out disguising the handwriting, he didn't later. No need in his mind - he would not be a prime suspect. The information is a hint to the fact that he resented the Ramsey family. I thnk he knew the 118,000 figure from one of a few possible sources.

JR may have mentioned the amount of his bonus when talking with friends or neighbors - as in - "Damn taxes - I got a $250,000 bonus and only saw $118,000." Or maybe someone at Access Graphics had access to that amount and spoke about it to the wrong person. Or JAR was bragging at the school - "yeah, well my old man's BONUS was $118,000." Lots of ways that may have gotten out.

SBTC - early threads have discussions about this - personally, I think it probably stands for Small Business Tax Center - Magic Man reported it helps small businesses pay less taxes - remember, JR won Entrepreneur of the Year the year before

So the note is written, the family is asleep, and the killer goes to JBR's room.

He lures her from her bed with the promise of a Christmas surprise. She knows him, he is playing on her innocence and the magic of Christmas. She goes with him to the basement.

After JonBenet is dead, he does not stay around. He leaves. He wipes her down, throws a cover over her, and leaves. He carries the note up the stairs with him. What to do with the note. He wrote it, it is a part of the whole fantasy. He leaves it to be found. Then he goes. This is a high risk perp. He leaves through the kitchen door and goes home. And he is still free today.

jams jameson - 10:16am Apr 21, 1997 (#5 of 18)

Christmas afternoon - the Ramseys are enjoying dinner with neighbors. They left their kitchen door unlocked so the 6 and 9 yr olds can go in and out for Christmas fun. They are right next door and this is Boulder many doors are unlocked.

Someone go to the Ramsey house. The neighbor Barnhill thinks it is JAR - but now we know JAR was in Atlanta. So who did Barnhill see? I think it was someone who knew the Ramseys, maybe intimately, maybe only slightly. I think he walked up to the house with full expectation of being welcomed in.

Who could this be? A friend of the family, someone who was lonely on this Christmas Day, or someone wanting to be with the Ramsey family, especially JonBenet.

I think this person was a pedophile who had targetted JonBenet for his fantasy. I think he thought of her often and enjoyed her company whenever he could.

Maybe a neighborhood person, maybe connected with pageants or Access Graphics, maybe from the college - would have to be unattached in order to be free several hours Christmas night. A married person would find it difficult to simply disappear Christmas night. But an unattached person might spend Christmas morning with family or alone, and be able to go out later in the day. The killer had no schedule to maintain, no promises to keep.

Did the killer stalk the child? I don't know. I think he sought her out more than once, tried to give her a little more attention, tried to be her friend. The tree platform might have been used to watch her - if the killer could move easily in the neighborhood. A neighborhood person or a college student could take an evening walk, or run, and spy on her. I don't know if he did, but I think it is a clear possibility.

Whatever, I think if he knocked on the door that evening, he would have been welcomed in for a moment - possibly saying he wanted to see JAR, or share Christmas greetings, or drop off a token gift for the children. Whoever approached that house expected a short welcome visit and that's all. Just perhaps a few minutes with the child of his fantasy. So the killer goes to the door.

jams jameson - 11:04am Apr 21, 1997 (#6 of 18)

An alternative could be that the pedophile lived nearby and was watching the house. Maybe he saw them go out and went to the house because he saw his chance to be in the house, to look around, spend time in HER home. This is also a trait of some high-risk stalkers. I still think the luggage was the trigger - he decided THEN to act that night.

Rita - 11:16am Apr 22, 1997 (#7 of 18)

Are you trying to sound like John Douglas, Jams?

jams jameson - 11:38am Apr 22, 1997 (#8 of 18)

No, Rita, just trying to say what my theory is and what kind of person might have done this.

Nancy B. - 12:46pm Apr 22, 1997 (#9 of 18)

I read in Saturday's paper (front page) that the D.A. made comments that their investigative focus IS on the Ramsey's, however, he did stipulate that they are not suspects yet. Play on words? Was on the tv news too.

Nick Husband - 01:02pm Apr 22, 1997 (#10 of 18)

You're right Nancy, but then he said they're looking in the house, and out of the house.. I think it's still tactics...

jams jameson - 08:16pm Apr 22, 1997 (#11 of 18)

smoke and mirrors - a lot there but nothing is real

Rita - 12:23pm Apr 23, 1997 (#12 of 18)

4/23 Are the papers saying police are investigating other avenues while also looking at the Ramsey's?

Rita - 12:24pm Apr 23, 1997 (#13 of 18)

4/23 When posters in here speak of "The Globe" are they talking about the tabloid??? Can you rely on something like that? I never have.

Nancy B. - 12:46pm Apr 23, 1997 (#14 of 18)

Right, Nick and Jams. Suprising to me, there was another large article in my Evening News about this case on 4/23.. More or less repetitious about 'focus', not suspects, will case ever be solved, ...

more or less same 'old' news..except also reported was the the 'friends' that came to the house in the morning, I believe, have been cleared? Have you guys heard anything? They also said with these friends, a priest, etc. being there that morning.... lot of evidence is lost.

jams jameson - 12:58pm Apr 23, 1997 (#15 of 18)

No one officially cleared except JAR, Mindy, Fleet and his wife. The cops ended their statement on Ramseys being the focus with the info that they are looking outside the family too. No resolution soon, I fear.

Rita - 09:05pm Apr 23, 1997 (#16 of 18)

Jams, so in a round about way are you answering my question in #12 about other avenues? So they ARE investigating others, right?

Nick Husband - 10:19pm Apr 23, 1997 (#17 of 18)

They said they're looking "in the house, and outside the house" Rita, but tonite they said the parents are the focus of the investigation. I'm not so sure what game they're playing. Sounds like just a head game.

jams jameson - 08:06am Apr 24, 1997 (#18 of 18)

Yes, investigating all leads, in and out of family. Without public pressure, I think the case would have been shelved and never solved. No extra money would have been allocated, the investigation stalled, and no arrests ever made.
