JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation
The Mysteries ~ Facts and Fiction

If a person is going to dance on a child's grave,
they should at least make sure their shoes are clean

The JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation was incorporated March 31, 1997

It's 2004 and seven years later

Where is the reward?

Where are the pledges?

Where are the Grants?

Where is the SHOES organization?

Where is the legislation to protect children against predators?

Where is the legislation to advocate child murders to a federal offense?

Where is the sincerity?

Where is the responsibility?

Where is the committment?

Where is the HONOR in JonBenet's name?
. LKL Live May 12, 2004: John Ramsey: "The foundation we set up for JonBenet in her honor, we did the same for our daughter, Beth, when she died in 1992. It's a compassion that just, I think, flowed out of us. We weren't sure what we were going to do with it, but we wanted to do something to honor her name."

This is the Foundation that was set up as a memorial to honor JonBenet Ramsey

There are 130 documented references on this web page directly relating or connected in one way or another to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. The foundation was set up as the source of funding for the $100,000 reward being offered. In the Ramsey's book, "Death of Innocence," page 164/165 where the Ramsey are explaining the purpose of the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Founation, they are quoted as, "Patsy and I guaranteed a reward of one hundred thousand dollars."

INCOME SOURCES TO THE FOUNDATION Included sources of monies pledged and possible donated contributions from friends and family, corporations and the general public. John and Patsy Ramsey pledged $15,000 PER YEAR for 1997, 1998 and 1999. There are no contributions of this scale from any source in any one of the three tax years listed.

The Ramseys friend/attorney Mike Bynum pledged profits from the resale of the Boulder house, Ramsey friend Linda McLean pledged all profits from the sale of her book when it was released August 21, 1998, Ramseys pledge profits from their hard back book released March 18, 2000 after legal expenses and ALL of the profits from their soft back (January 2001 edition) book. Ramseys book had a first printing of 300,000 copies. John Ramsey even said in August 2000 that one of his original plans was to sue the tabloids and donate the money to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. Although the Ramsey said there were no plans for fundraising, a Ramsey press release was issued in February 1997 giving a bank address in Colorado where public fund contributions could be sent. In March 26, 2000 an Internet poster who made a donation to the Foundation in Janaury received an e-mail from "PtsyR@aol.com" and signed by John Ramsey. That e-mail provided a new foundation address for donations as P.O. Box 724505, Atlanta, GA 31139.

CONTACT INFORMATION TO HELP FIND THE KILLER: The Ramseys, in their book, "Death of Innocence," page 374 asks the public help to find the killer of their daughter and their contact/resource list includes the family web site as www.ramseyfamily.com (that no longer exists), an e-mail tip address of JonBenetinfo@aol.com (that returns mail as 'unknown'), a tip hotline telephone number (which was printed in error at publication and never corrected), and the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation legal tax address at P.O. Box 724505, Atlanta, GA 31139 is listed in the book as where to mail confidential tips.

COMMITTMENTS TO THE FOUNDATION: Included the $100,000 reward, plans to offer a grant program, plans for an outreach program called SHOES that would advocate legislation, SHOES would offer resources and rewards, SHOES would use tools to track pedophiles, SHOES would put reward funds in place, SHOES would advocate child murders to a federal offense. John Ramsey said in an online ABC Chat "In Their Own Words" on March 20, 2000 that he wants the Foundation to protect children against predators, through legislation and that he wants child murders to be a federal offense. Where are the grant programs? Where is the SHOES organization?

Early documentation shows that the Ramsey family web site at www.ramseyfamily.com displayed press releases as well as ads and flyers the Ramseys sent out in search for their daughter's killer in the spring and fall of 1997. Later the web site was used to advertise the $100,000 reward. In December 26, 2001, Ramsey attorney, Lin Wood is quoted in the media as saying that the Ramsey family no longer has the reward money. By November 25, 2002, the Ramsey family, via their attorney Lin Wood stated they will no longer communicate with one Susan Bennett whose web site URL is listed in the Ramseys books and was on their Ramsey family web site as the main source for the garotte illustrations. By 2003 the Ramsey family web site no longer existed and the domain at www.ramseyfamily.com expired April 19, 2004.

Patsy Ramsey said in August 2000 during the Atlanta interviews that she had never even seen the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation books or financial records. The Foundation was opened on March 31, 1997 and Patsy Ramsey is listed as the President of the Foundation. The "Bylaws of the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation state, "the Board of Directors shall annually prepare a report, verified by the President and Treasurer or by a majority of the Directors, to be prescribed at the annual meeting of the Board of Directors, showing in appropiate detail the following: (a) the assets and liabilities, including the donated funds, of the Corporation as of the end of the fiscal year." The Board of Directors consisted of John and Patsy Ramsey.

REPORTER (05-01-1997): What do you want to say to the killer of your daughter?
John Ramsey (05-01-1997): "We'll find you. We will find you. I have that as a sole mission for the rest of my life."

REPORTER (05-01-1997): John, would you recommend the death penalty for the person convicted of killing JonBenet?
John Ramsey (05-01-1997): "I would absolutely want the most severe penalty that could be brought."

Steve Thomas (LKL-05-31-2000): "Do you support the death penalty for the person who is ultimately convicted of this crime?"
John Ramsey (LKL-05-31-2000): "I do not support the death penalty because of the horrible flaws I've seen in our justice system.
There are many, many innocent people on death row today because of people like Steve Thomas"

"Today's advertisement in the Daily Camera offers a $100,000 reward from the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killer. It lists a number for the foundation and the Crimestoppers' hotline operated by the Boulder Police Department. The reward money was provided by JonBenet's parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, and others."

[Patsy Ramsey with $100,000 reward poster]

Denver Post - May 1 interview transcript
May 1 , 1997

"Patsy Ramsey: I'd like to say that we would, one of the reasons we asked you all to be here this morning is that we need your help from this moment on. I know you have been diligently covering this case and we have appreciated some of what you've said and ... not all of what you've said. We need to all work together as a team and we need your help.

Some of you may have seen the ad that we place in our local Daily Camera newspaper this past weekend. This reward money has been offered since the death of JonBenet, but we felt like it wasn't getting out to the public enough. So this ad with her most recent kindergarten picture will be appearing more and more frequently.
And what we want to let everyone know is that this $100,000 reward is for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of our daughter. We feel that there are at least two people on the face of this earth that know who did this, and that is the killer and someone that that person may have confided in. And we need that one phone call, we need the one phone call to this number that will help the authorities come to a conclusion to this case. Please, if you know anything, I beg you to call us, call us. And I guess if any of you have questions of us ..."

Ramseys: We didn't do it
By Marilyn Robinson, Denver Post Staff Writer
May 2, 1997

"We'll find you. I have that as a sole mission for the rest of my life," said John Ramsey.

"God knows who you are and we will find you," said Patsy Ramsey.

"Let me assure you that I did not kill JonBenet. I did not have anything to do with it. I loved that child with the whole of my heart and soul.'' said Patsy Ramsey.

"We need your help from this moment on," said Patsy Ramsey, holding up a copy of an advertisement offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer."

"We feel there are at least two people on the face of this earth who know who did this - the killer and someone that person may have confided in" Patsy said

From the Ramsey's book,
"The Death of Innocence"
(hard cover 03-18-2000 page 164-165):

"In the spring we formed the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. Some donations had been given in her memory at the time of her death, and in addition we added our own private funds. When Beth died, we had established a foundation in her honor and we wanted to do something similar for JonBenet. The foundation's overriding principle is this: children are our society's most valuable and fragile assets. We must nurture and protect our children with the full force of our abilities and be know as a society that values its children above all else.

We struggled for a time with what specifically we wanted the foundation to support. After much thought and prayer, it seemed right that
one objective of the foundation would be to enhance the safety of children by helping focus resources and attention on the most heinous of crimes, child murder. Our experience had shown that local police in smaller jurisdictions don't have the experience and wisdom necessary to effectively track down child killers. Of the eighteen thousand police jurisdictions in the United States, many must be similar to Boulder, with limited experience and knowledge about this kind of horrible crime. We felt a need to make resources available to them, resources that could be called upon when a child was murdered. We also wanted the foundation to support the building of faith in children's lives, because faith is the ultimate armor for the battle of life. A strong foundation would enable them to grow spiritually for the rest of their lives. I had grown to understand how important my mother's early religious training had been to me. Now that I was walking this particularly difficult path, I was even more indebted to my faith, which helped me keep an eternal perspective and therefore my hope.

Patsy and I guaranteed a reward of one hundred thousand dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who killed our daughter. Perhaps a role of the foundation could be to offer substantial rewards for unsolved child killings with a staffed resource center to solicit tips. Money has a way of making people talk. The tabloids know this. Maybe we could put their techniques to better use. We continue to refine the course of the foundation as we take it a step at a time to see where we might be most effective in protecting our children, and we need to find funding sources to carry out this work."

"and should there be a profit, the money would go to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation."

From the Ramsey's book,
"The Death of Innocence"
(hard cover 03-18-2000 page 207):

"In the end, Mike Bynum and several of our attorneys and investors put up the money to buy the house. Mike was concerned that some promoter type might acquire the place and turn it into a circus, selling tickets to go through it or using it to make a movie about all of this. As the months went by, Mike's group rented the house to students, some of the coaching staff, and other individuals at CU, just to keep it occupied. Mike later told me that their plan was to sell the house in a few years, and should there be a profit, the money would go to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. I was overwhelmed with gratitude when Mike shared their intentions. What a special group of men!"

Denver Post
Tipsters still call wrong family's number

By Mike McPhee, Denver Post Staff Writer
June 4, 2000

The mistake was made when the Ramseys published the wrong area code for the tip line. The line has the new 720 area code, but the book mistakenly used a 303 area code.

"Initially, John Ramsey wanted us to change our telephone number," Mara Swan said. "But I refused to. We have kids who have memorized the number; I have a business on it. It would be a real inconvenience. John Ramsey then offered to pay for the line, but I said no. They weren't very nice about it."

"Making Daydreams Come True"

From an Internet poster under the name of "Why_Nut": "This, for example, was part of the package I got from the IRS. Apparently, it was meant as a letter introducing potential donors to the Foundation. Why such a letter exists, when John and Patsy have claimed they never intended to solicit donations from the public, is unclear."

John Ramsey's deposition from Oct. 20, 1998
Stephen Miles' defamation lawsuit against Ramsey and the National Enquirer

Page 50

13 Q. Do you have anyone running interference for you
14 with respect to social contacts or attempts? Anyone
15 taking calls or screening calls?
16 A. Not -- we did for a while, only because we lived
17 with some people.

18 Q. Who were those people?
19 A. Susan and Glenn Stine.
20 Q. Should I add them to your list of close friends?
21 A. They were not close friends, believe it or not.
22 They were friends, but we didn't socialize a lot with
23 them.

24 Q. Can you help me complete a list of people who
25 would be on the same level of relationship as the Stines

Page 51

1 were to your family?
2 MR. CRAVER: At what time, Lee?
3 MR. LEE: Beginning in 1994 to date.
4 A. I can't think of the names.
5 Q. Mr. Ramsey -- to try and put you at ease -- it's
6 not intended to be a memory test at this moment, but as
7 those names occur to you, I would ask that you supplement
8 the deposition transcript.
9 A. Be glad to.

10 Q. Thank you. When did you live with the Stines?
11 A. Early 1997, probably until June, July I think.
12 Q. Where do they live?
13 A. They lived at the time on 10th I think, 10th
14 Street.
15 Q. Where do they live now?
16 A. They live in Atlanta.
17 Q. Do you continue a relationship with them?
18 A. Yes.
19 Q. What do they do?
20 A. What do they do?
21 Q. Yes, sir.
22 MR. CRAVER: Mr. or Mrs.?
23 MR. HILL: Both.
24 A. Glenn Stine now works with me. He joined our
25 company in August of this year, and Susan takes care of

Page 52

1 her son.
2 Q. How old is their son?
3 A. He's Burke's age. He's 11.
4 Q. When did you first meet the Stines?
5 A. Gosh, I don't know. It would have been when we
6 lived in Boulder. I don't remember when we first met
7 them.
8 Q. Were they also at your Christmas party in 1996?
9 A. Gosh, I don't remember. Possibly, but I don't
10 remember.

Page 54

7 Q. How long had you known Mr. Bynum?
8 A. I had known him for two or three years, I guess.
9 Q. Was he a professional associate or a social
10 friend?
11 A. He was I guess more of a professional associate.
12 Q. Also something of a friend as well?
13 A. Sure.

14 Q. What strata would he belong in? Would he be
15 roughly in the same category as the Stines?
16 A. Uh-huh.
17 Q. Yes?
18 A. Yes.

Page 65

3 A. There were a number of people that questioned
4 the Whites' behavior to us. Why are they acting so
5 strange?
6 Q. Do you remember who those people were? This
7 item is really important. This is kind of the heart of
8 this whole interview, so work with me as much as you can,
9 please.
10 A. Well, my brother had commented on that. The
11 Westmorelands in Atlanta; the Davises; Patsy's sister, Pam
12 Paugh;
the Stines.
13 Q. So far the Stines are the only ones who live in
14 Boulder; is that right?
15 A. Yeah, so far on that list.
16 Q. Who lived in Boulder?
17 A. Right.

19 A. Not that I recall.

Page 81

2 Q. What were the circumstances under which you met
3 the Stine family?
4 A. I think it was probably through school. Doug
5 and Burke were the same age, same class, same grade, and
6 that's probably where we met.

7 Q. Since the tragedy, you've stayed in other
8 families' homes other than your former home on 15th
9 Street; is that correct?
10 A. Uh-huh.
11 Q. Whose homes have you stayed in?
12 A. We stayed in Jay Elowsky's home for a period of
13 time.
We've stayed in the Stines'. Both of those were
14 for extended periods.
We've stayed at people's houses,
15 you know, a day or the two at a time.
16 Q. Who would that include?
17 A. Well, the Westmorelands in Atlanta for a few
18 days; my brother's house; my parents-in-law's home.
19 Q. Where is that?
20 A. It's in Atlanta.
21 Q. Anyone else?
22 A. We stayed at Byron Chrisman's condominium at
23 Snowmass -- not Snowmass, Streamboat for a few days. We
24 were trying to escape the media. That's all I can
25 remember.

Page 83

17 Q. Have you discussed the Miles case with anyone
18 other than your lawyers?

19 A. I probably mentioned them to my brother and the
20 Stines that I was being sued,
but that's probably the
21 extent of it.
22 Q. Do you recall the occasion when you discussed
23 this case with the Stines, when and where that occurred?
24 A. No. It wouldn't have been a discussion of the
25 case. It would just have been a comment.

Page 84

21 Q. Do you know where the Stines lived when they
22 were still in Boulder relative to my client's house?
23 A. Well, more or less. I mean, I know where the
24 Stines lived
and I know where the Walkers live, so yeah.
25 Q. It's your testimony that you've entered into no

Page 85

1 discussions with the Stines regarding Stephen Miles?
2 A. I've commented that I'm being sued to them, just
3 one more thing that's a burden.
4 Q. Did they ever mention anything about the
5 articles that were published?
6 A. Not that I recall.
7 Q. Did they ever tell you, we spoke with the
8 Enquirer trying to help you out?
9 A. Did the Stines?
10 Q. Yes, sir.
11 A. No.
12 Q. Did the Walkers ever say, we spoke to the
13 Enquirer trying to help you out?
14 A. I see what you're saying. No.
15 Q. No in both cases?
16 A. No in both cases.

17 Q. Have either the Stines or the Walkers ever
18 acknowledged making an effort to help you out, help your
19 image out?
20 A. I wouldn't -- certainly Susan and Glenn Stine
21 have been very helpful to us as a family, but it hasn't
22 been focused or concerned with our image. So no.

23 Q. Have you ever asked either the Stines or the
24 Walkers to make statements on your behalf in connection
25 with this case?

Page 86

1 A. No.

(SKIP)

25 Q. Did the Stines participate to any degree in the

Page 87

1 production of the documentary?
2 A. Susan was interviewed.
3 Q. Any other degree of participation?
4 A. Not, other than being with us when we were
5 interviewed, to my knowledge.

Page 91

12 Q. Did either of the Stines ever mention anyone at
13 all that they suspected may have been involved in the
14 tragic event?
15 A. Not other than they thought the Whites were
16 acting very strange.

Where is the "SHOES" organization?

From the Ramsey's book, "The Death of Innocence" (hard cover 03-18-2000 page 390):

"We hope to start an organization called SHOES as an outreach of the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation, which will advocate legislation, offer resources and rewards, and establish computer databases-all focused as effective tools to both prevent violent crimes against children and to assist in the capture of child murderers.

We will use computerized tools to track pedophiles and sex offenders and also use experienced, retired detectives and top experts as resources to aid, and in some cases challenge, local police departments. We will put funds in place to offer significant rewards for information, when appropriate, to apprehend child killers.

SHOES will advocate legislation to elevate the murder of a child under the age of thirteen to a federal offense. After all, a bank robbery is a federal offense, and by law our nation treats this as a most serious crime. Do we as a country care more about our money than our children?"

Denver Post - Ramsey house for sale again
By Karen Auge, Denver Post Staff Writer
June 15, 2000

"A spokeswoman for Boulder attorney Michael Bynum confirmed the house is for sale again - for $1.2 million."

"This is the third time the house has been on the market since it gained infamy in 1996."

"In 1998, Bynum said the group eventually planned to sell the home and donate any profits to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. The foundation was set up by the Ramseys to provide reward money for information leading to JonBenet's killer. Bynum was out of town Wednesday, and his spokeswoman said she was unsure about current plans for proceeds of the sale."

1000Spark's Donation to the
JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation:

On January 10, 2000, an Internet poster under the hat name of "1000Sparks" sent a personal $5.00 donation check into the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation. "1000Sparks" had not heard anything back from the foundation until she received an unexpected e-mail from "PtsyR@aol.com" on March 26, 2000 that was signed from "John Ramsey" and providing a new address where donations could be sent. Interesting was that "1000Sparks" REAL true first name was on the e-mail but she had not provided an e-mail address when she sent in the donation. Sparky posted the e-mail on the Justice Watch Forum on March 27, 2000. That posting is below:

On July 1, 2000, another poster on the Internet forums posted, "1000Sparks check to the JBR foundation, mailed in January, was recently cashed and Sparks got some JBR foundation info back. Good going, Sparky! Sparky also posted that the check was endorsed by way of a stamp as follows: "MLPF&S, Inc." Ramseys Post Suspect Sketch Online
Likeness Based On Work Of Psychic

Molly Thompson, Staff Writer
BOULDER, Colo., Posted 3:54 p.m. EDT June 3, 2000

John and Patsy Ramsey have posted a psychic's composite sketch of a suspect in their daughter's murder on their Internet site.

The sketch is based on the work of the late psychic, Dorothy Allison, who claimed to have assisted police investigations. Allison, who died last year, came up with her vision of the suspect during a 1998 appearance on a network television show.

Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner declined to comment on the psychic's work.

The Ramsey's Web site asks: "Have you seen this man? This man may have been in the Boulder area in December 1996. ... We firmly believe that this most horrible of killers will be caught based on information provided by people who care about right and wrong. ... Please help, so another innocent child will not be a victim and another family will not suffer unbearable grief."

The JonBenet Ramsey Case
Open or Shut? (Part 2)

By Scott Ross
Scott Ross interviews John and Patsy Ramsey
July 19, 2000

SCOTT: The latest little deal to come out, it hit the press a few days ago, was the fact that you have now gone to a psychic?

JOHN: Not true.

SCOTT: Well … I have the article right here …

JOHN: Read it in the paper has to be true! Let me dispel your image of that.

SCOTT:
There it is. You put out a $100,000 reward to find this guy, and it's on your website.

JOHN: Our investigators control the web site. They put that picture on there. We did not contact a psychic as has been reported. The sketch that appeared on the web site that our investigators use was provided by Dorthy Allison on a television program a year or so ago. Our objective is to keep this alive in the public's mind, in hopes that the one lead that we are waiting for will come through.

SCOTT:
So you allowed it to be used?

JOHN: We don't control the web site. The information that was put on there was put on there by our investigators, what they think is appropriate.

SCOTT: The reason why I raise the question because you claim to be Christians and you know, or I hope you know or have been taught, biblically, God doesn't look with whole lot of kindness on psychics or their practices.

PATSY & JOHN: Right. I know.

SCOTT: It's considered to be witchcraft ...

PATSY: Demonic.

SCOTT: And demonic. Now that might not make a lot of psychics happy, but I'm sorry, get over it. But that is what you have been accused of now and there is a distortion again?

PATSY: People look constantly for things to accuse the Ramseys about. This is just another one. Suffice to say -- the investigators, this was their doing -- they had the sketch.

JOHN: One of the reasons we are here today is to keep the pot stirred up.

SCOTT: You want to keep the pot stirred up?

JOHN: Absolutely.

SCOTT: Don't you want to go in a cave and hide out?

JOHN: Are you kidding, there are times we want to do that, but we want to find the killer. We are going to get one phone call that is going to lead us to the killer. This is not going to come now from clever detective work, it is going to come from the public. Someone out there knows who did this --they are going to call. We want to let them know where to call. We want to let them know we are still interested. When we get that call we got him.

VIDEOTAPED INTERVIEW OF John Ramsey
2140 The Equitable Building, Atlanta Georgia
August 29, 2000

0068

25 Q. You mentioned Dorothy Allison

0069

1 earlier. Is this Dorothy Allison the
2 psychic, she is now dead?
3 A. As far as I know. I heard she
4 is dead.
5 Q. Well, I said that. That wasn't a
6 question. Dorothy Allison is the Dorothy
7 Allison who was a psychic that's made
8 comments about this?
9 A. As far as I know. I never laid
10 eyes on Dorothy Allison, nor heard her. She
11 was on a television program about this case,
12 and we received information as a result of
13 some things she said in terms of leads.
14 Q. Okay. And that was part of that
15 packet you handed in there?
16 A. Uh-huh (affirmative).
17 Q. There was a sketch that was made
18 based on a description that she --
19 A. Right.
20 Q. -- created. Are you aware of
21 that, that sketch?
22 A. Yes.
23 Q. Have you gotten any leads as a
24 result of that sketch?
25 A. We have gotten -- I know the lead

0070

1 level went up dramatically when we put that
2 out there, and I think the reason for
3 putting it out there was to keep things
4 stirred up. One of our objectives certainly
5 has been to keep this active in the public's
6 mind.
7 Q. So after that --
8 A. Yeah, we got a lot of leads after
9 that.
10 Q. When you say you put it out
11 there, what do you mean?
12 A. It was put on our website by the
13 investigators.

14 Q. Okay. And you say after that, it
15 got put on your website, you got a lot
16 of --
17 A. Yeah.

18 Q. And is that still on your
19 website?
20 A. I haven't looked, but I don't
21 believe so.
22 Q. Why is that?

23 A. We are trying to keep the website
24 active so people come back. The whole
25 objective here is to keep it stirred up,

0071

1 keep it active
.
2 Q. Is the ransom note on the
3 website?
4 A. It was -- well, the ransom note?
5 No, I don't think so. No, not that I know
6 of. I mean, I haven't seen it there.
7 Q. Was that a conscious decision not
8 to put it on?
9 A. I wasn't directly involved with
10 what went on that website from the beginning.
11 I don't know if it was a conscious decision
12 or not.
13 MR. WOOD: I think Ollie would
14 probably know.
15 THE WITNESS: I think it's on the
16 web in other places, I've been told.

17 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Have you been
18 involved in any efforts to publicize the
19 ransom note?
20 A. No. Not -- we wanted it released
21 early on based on strong recommendations that
22 that be done, but --

23 Q. But you haven't, yourself,
24 promoted that or anything?
25 A. Uh-uh (indicating negatively).

from Larry Wieda of Crimestoppers:

"Good Morning!

I'm not sure as to what the question or the concerns are, but
there is no reward being offered by Boulder County Crime Stoppers. There was an agreement that was settled with the Ramesy's after they used our name and program without our permission. The Fund was supposed to be set up by the Ramsey's and as we understand it never was.

The Bottom Line is, Boulder County Crime Stoppers did not or never has offered a reward of $100,000. It, BCCS, agreed to administer the reward offered by the Ramsey's from their JonBonet Reward Foundation which was to be set up by them at the time the articles were released and without the permission of BCCS.

If you are or were interested in the reward you must contact the Ramsey's for any further information.

JonBenet mystery's grip remains powerful
By Patrick O'Driscoll, USA TODAY
December 26, 2001

Wood says the Ramseys' finances are dwindling as they live off savings. Their home in Atlanta, where they moved after the girl's death, is for sale. He says John Ramsey, once president and CEO of a computer company in Boulder, now is "almost unemployable."

"The Ramseys' computer site (www.ramseyfamily.com) still is up. But Wood says the family no longer has the $100,000 reward it had been offering. He adds, however, that John Ramsey vows to "find a way to pay that reward" if someone provides information that helps arrest and convict the killer.

CNN Interview - January 1, 1997 - John and Patsy Ramsey
Aired January 1, 1997 - 4:34 p.m. ET

WATERS: Did I hear the Ramseys are putting out some money to hire private investigators?

CABELL: They will be assembling their own private investigative team, exactly how many individuals we don't know, but private investigators, attorneys, they say they want the best investigative minds in the country. They want to coordinate this with the authorities in Boulder and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. But they are hiring their own people and offer a reward starting next week.

WATERS: What kind of reward?

CABELL:
Fifty-thousand dollars was the figure he tossed out there. He wasn't absolutely certain but he thought it would be at least $50,000.

RAMSEY CASE NEWS RELEASE #24
BOULDER CRIME STOPPERS ANNOUNCE
$100,000 REWARD IN JONBENET RAMSEY

Boulder County Crime Stoppers officials announced today that a reward fund totaling the amount of $100,000 has been established for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the murder of JonBonet Ramsey in December of 1996. Earlier reports stated that an award fund has been established by the Ramsey family in the amount of $50,000 and by a national publication in the in the amount of $50,000.

"This information is incorrect," notes Brad Harvey, co-chairman of the non-profit Crime Stoppers organization.
"We have been working with the Ramsey family attorneys for the past several weeks as they worked to establish a foundation which will be responsible for the funds," he adds. The Crime Stoppers board of directors will direct the distribution of the funds and make any decisions concerning possible recipients.

The Crime Stoppers programs exist internationally and are designed to assist in solving difficult crimes. Due to the program's ability to take information anonymously, and provide rewards, the program has been very successful. The Ramsey family suggested using the program to assist with the apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the death of their daughter.

"Although this case is somewhat unusual, we hope to provide assistance that will lead to the eventual closure of the case," says Harvey. Individuals who have information that may be pertinent to the case should call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-444-3776. All callers remain anonymous.

Note: Officer Larry Wieda is the President of Crime Stoppers International. He is recognized world wide as an authority on the program. He is the coordinator of the Boulder County Crime Stoppers program.

JonBenet haunts pageant
By Bill Briggs, Denver Post Staff Writer
March 20, 1997

Presented by America's Royale Miss, the March 29 event at the Northglenn Recreation Center is being billed as a "charitable pageant event." Winners move on to a national competition. All proceeds are slated to go to the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Hospital Fund.

"We thought, 'What a wonderful way for the children to get involved and raise money for Children's Hospital and of course for JonBenet's memory,' " Doland said.

But controversy arose Wednesday when Children's Hospital said it wanted no part of the pageant because organizers have not received authorization from the Ramsey family.

But Doland, a friend of Patsy Ramsey's, said she's been unable to reach the Ramseys for months, despite sending cards and flowers.

Her husband, Wayne Doland, said "it sounds like they (Children's Hospital) don't want any type of affiliation with our organization because of the stigma of pageants now. It hurts my feelings to be honest with you." Children's officials also acknowledged they are examining the propriety of the hospital's overall ties to the JonBenet fund.

The JonBenet Ramsey Children's Hospital Fund - set up by "friends of the Ramsey family" - funnels its donations to the Child Advocacy and Protection Team at Children's Hospital.

Ramsey reward ad suggests new suspect
May 9, 1997
Web posted at: 9:43 p.m. EDT (0143 GMT)

BOULDER, Colorado (CNN) -- A new newspaper advertisement will be published Sunday promoting a $100,000 reward in the killing of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey -- this one suggesting a possible suspect.

The new ad, to run in the Boulder Daily Camera, asks: "Anyone with information regarding a well-dressed male approaching young children around Christmastime, please call."

Investigators in the case have not publicly suggested they were searching for such a person. Police had no comment on the new ad.

The reward is funded by the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation, the sole contributor of which, CNN has learned, is JonBenet's father, John Ramsey, a multimillionaire entrepreneur. The new wording was not approved by County Crime Stoppers, which had administered a hotline number for tips that might lead to an arrest in the case.

Denver Post -Ramsey ad raises questions
By Marilyn Robinson, Denver Post Staff Writer
May 10, 1997

May 10 - John and Patsy Ramsey have paid for another newspaper advertisement seeking information in the murder of their daughter, but the ad has drawn criticism from the head of the Boulder County Crime Stoppers program."

The new ad suggests a man may have been following young children around Christmastime when 6-year-old JonBenet was murdered.

"Anyone with information concerning an adult male approaching young children in Boulder in late 1996, please call," the ad reportedly reads.

The ad, which will appear in the Boulder Camera on Sunday offers a $100,000 reward.

"We have a reason for including the new material in the ad," said Rachelle Zimmer, a spokeswoman for the Ramseys' attorneys. She declined to elaborate other than to say the rest of the wording is similar to a previous ad.

The previous ad included the Boulder County Crime Stoppers phone number and a private number set up by the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation - established by JonBenet's parents to administer the reward

(SNIP)

"Based on our agreement, we have the right to review all press releases," Wieda said. "They're putting our name and our number in it. That's what we wanted to protect."

Wieda is especially concerned because the ad carries a separate tipline along with the Crime Stopper number. The tipline asks callers to leave their name, phone number and information - and that causes a problem, he said.

"People are losing their anonymity. Those records can be subpoenaed. That's why we're concerned," he said. "Our program is in jeopardy."

The initial ad offered the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer. That too was unacceptable to Crime Stoppers. Zimmer said the latest ad refers to indictment rather than conviction to conform to Crime Stoppers policy.

New ad drops Crime Stoppers
Ramsey family's latest plea seeks info on "adult male"

By ALLI KRUPSKI, Camera Staff Writer
Saturday, May 10, 1997

Family spokeswoman Rachelle Zimmer declined to elaborate on the appeal, which offers a $100,000 reward from the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation.

"We have a reason for including the new material in the ad," Zimmer said.

The foundation removed the Crime Stoppers phone number from the ad, instead listing a hot line the Ramsey foundation established, Zimmer said.

"When you call the (foundation tip line), it asks you to leave your name, your phone number and information," said Officer Larry Wieda, coordinator for Boulder County Crime Stoppers, the nonprofit organization designed to help police solve crimes. "The phone records can be subpoenaed, so if an individual is seeking to be anonymous, it jeopardizes the anonymity of the callers. We're concerned with this."

(SNIP)

The Ramsey foundation placed an initial ad in the April 27 Sunday Camera including the Crime Stoppers number and requesting information leading to the arrest and conviction of JonBenet's killer or killers. But, in accordance with Crime Stoppers' policy, officials altered the phrasing of Sunday's ad to "arrest and indictment" of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

Investors buy Ramseys' 15th Street home
By MATT SEBASTIAN, Camera Staff Writer
Friday, February 6, 1998

A group of investors bought the former Boulder home of John and Patsy Ramsey on Thursday and pledged to resell it at a later date, donating profits to the JonBenet Ramsey Childrens Foundation.

In a statement released Thursday morning, local attorney Michael Bynum said the house sold for $650,000 to an investor group named after the Ramsey homes address, 755 15th St., L.L.C.

The group, according to Bynums statement, is "composed of individuals assisting the Ramsey family."

Bynum, who in the mid-70s served as a Boulder County deputy district attorney, declined to elaborate on his brief press release. A friend of the Ramseys, Bynum took "Primetime Live" co-host Diane Sawyer on a tour of the house last summer.

Colorado Secretary of State records show 755 15th St. was incorporated Jan. 21 and lists Boulder resident Anne Bork as its registered agent. When asked Thursday about the purchase of the Ramsey home, Bork said, "I dont have any comment on that."

Bynums statement says the group will hold the home "for an as yet undetermined period of time" before offering it for resale.
Any profits will go to the JonBenet Ramsey Childrens Foundation, a group set up by the slain 6-year-old's parents.

JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered Dec. 26, 1996, in the basement of the 15th Street home. Over the past year, the children's foundation has purchased several advertisements in the Daily Camera touting a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of JonBenet's killer.

John and Patsy Ramsey, along with their 11-year-old son Burke, haven't lived in the home since JonBenet was found murdered. In July, the couple purchased a home reportedly worth $750,000 in an Atlanta suburb.

The Ramseys bought their 6,800-square-foot Boulder home in 1991 for $500,000. The four-bedroom, 61/2-bathroom Tudor-style home has been renovated since then. Prior to JonBenet's death, the family reportedly turned down a $2 million offer for their house.

According to Bynum's statement, the Ramsey family already had sold the home to a "relocation service" retained by John Ramsey's employer. Whether the employer in question is Access Graphics - the company Ramsey founded - or its former corporate owner, Lockheed Martin, is unknown.

The broker who handled Thursday's sale to the investor group, Joel Ripmaster of Colorado Landmark Realtors, said the relocation service, which he wouldn't name, hired him "late last year" to list the property.

Ripmaster said he couldn't comment on how much the relocation service paid the Ramseys for the house, or when it was originally sold.

14 MIKE KANE: I was talking to you
15 about things that you have done yourself. You
16 mentioned the Internet. Anything else on the
17 Internet that you have done?
18 JOHN RAMSEY: Not me
19 personally. I know we had a Web site, actually
20 looked at it the other day, it was out-of-date,
21 hadn't kept up, someone was doing that, it was
22 part of a press interference, but no.
23 MIKE KANE: Why hasn't it been kept

25 JOHN RAMSEY: Well, we just

8 MIKE KANE: Outside of running that
9 site, I mean is there anything that you have
10 done like research-wise or on the Internet?
11 JOHN RAMSEY: No, just I have done
12 searches on the SBTC. Primarily. That's all I
13 used it for, to try to figure that out. That
14 didn't hold up anything.
15 MIKE KANE: Outside of that, have
16 you made -- I mean are there other things that
17 -- maybe I should ask it this way. Is there --
18 are there things that you feel that you could do
19 but you haven't done yourself, personally?
20 JOHN RAMSEY: Yeah; no, not really
21 other than sit and look at evidence, things that
22 you have questions on, that I can perhaps shed
23 light on. No. That's kind of the remaining
24 thing I think we can do that we haven't been
25 able to do.

INTERVIEW OF John Ramsey
by Lou Smit and Michael Kane

Broomfield Police Department, Broomfield, Colorado
June 23, 1998

0612

2 LOU SMIT: Who actually owns
3 the house now, John, there is a lot of
4 confusion?

5 JOHN RAMSEY: Lockheed
6 graciously bought it as part of their executive
7 transfer program. They buy it through a third
8 party, that's what they specialize in, and they
9 turn around and sell it. And I did that,
10 because just because I, A, didn't want to deal
11 with it, B, it was expensive just to have it.
12 Even though the offer was probably half the
13 value of what it was six months ago before it
14 happened.
15 And then Mike Bynum felt very
16 strongly that he didn't want the house falling
17 into the media's hands or TV crew or a film
18 producer. And basically called and said I put
19 together a group of people that are going to buy
20 the house, we are going to hold it, so that it
21 doesn't fall into the wrong hands. And we sell

22 it, if there is profit, the profit's to be
23 donated to JonBenet's foundation we set up and

24 we were just overwhelmed that they -- we had
25 friends that would do something like that.

0613

1 But they, I don't know if it's a
2 corporation or a partnership or how it was set
3 up, but that's who owns it. And I think he had,
4 last I knew, some senior football coach was
5 staying there. He hasn't really talked too much
6 about it.

It is important to her parents and family and freinds that she will not have died in vain. It is important that something will be accomplished in her name that will help other children. If ever there were a circumstance to test a person's faith, this is it. JonBenét's mother blasts the tabloids
Associated Press
September 1, 1998

Thursday's interview was arranged by longtime friend Linda McLean of North Hills, whose book, "JonBenét's Mother: The Tragedy and the Truth!" was released Aug. 21.

McLean said she wrote the book to support the Ramseys and to dispel tabloid rumors. The book contains signed letters of support by 20 friends and relatives.

"I'm so lucky to have such wonderful friends who thought enough (of me) to speak out," Mrs. Ramsey said.

The Ramseys have shunned reading newspapers or magazines to avoid stories about their daughter's death, she said.

Profits from the book will be donated to the JonBenét Ramsey Children's Foundation, which will benefit children and adults who exhibit good parenting skills, Mrs. Ramsey said.

Ramseys offer $100,000 reward money to the killer of their daughter with suggestions that he or she can give to a mother, spouse, child or friend!

Statement of John Ramsey for the Ramsey Family
In Response to the Resignation of Detective Lou Smit
September 28, 1998

"To the killer, I would say that we can and will find you. There is a $100,000 reward for your arrest that still stands. You have the opportunity to do one good thing in your life by turning yourself in to the authorities and confessing. We have been told that the authorities have your DNA. They will know it is you. If you surrender and are proven to be the killer, the $100,000 will be paid to anyone you choose. Surely you have a mother or spouse or child or friend to whom this money would be significant. Help them and help yourself. You know you will kill again, so do this one good thing in your life. Turn yourself in and ask for God's forgiveness. Your fellow man will be grateful and our family will be grateful."

3 Q. So Mr. Bynum was not employed by you as your
4 personal lawyer with respect to any of these issues, was
5 he?
6 A. Prior to December '96, I don't believe so.
7 Q. After December '96?

8 A. Mike's firm set up the children's foundation,
9 for example, for us.

10 Q. Any other types of legal services that he
11 provided?
12 MR. CRAVER: That's enough, Lee. That's an
13 attorney/client relationship. They were performing legal
14 work, setting up a foundation. So I think we'll assert
15 the privilege as to any communication between he and Mr.
16 Bynum as of that date.

17 Q. Was Mr. Bynum involved in establishing the
18 foundation?
19 A. He was involved, yes, as I recall.
20 Q. When did -- you actually cut a check to his firm
21 to establish the foundation?
22 A. We have paid some monies to them, yeah.
23 Q. When did those payments take place?
24 A. I don't know. I'd have to look.
25 Q. Will you do that?

Page 57

1 A. Uh-huh.
2 Q. And let us know. It wasn't within the first two
3 months after the tragedy, was it?
4 A. I don't know. I'd have to look. I really don't
5 remember.

6 Q. To the degree his firm has provided you with
7 legal assistance, it's strictly related to the
8 establishment of this charitable fund; is that correct?
9 MR. CRAVER: I'm going to object and I'm not
10 going to allow him to answer that question. I think the
11 extent to which an attorney has represented a person in
12 the context of an attorney/client privilege is in fact
13 privileged information itself.
14 MR. HILL: You'll mark that question, please.
15 You're instructing him not to answer?
16 MR. CRAVER: Yes, I'm going to instruct him not
17 to answer any questions regarding the extent or activities
18 Mr. Bynum undertook for he or his family.
19 Where do you think you're going on that?
20 MR. HILL: Where I'm going with it is my
21 business completely. It's within the parameters of our
22 federal discovery, in response to your question.
23 MR. CRAVER: I understand. I'm trying to --
24 pursuant to Rule 30, I'm trying to confer with you to see
25 if we can reach a middle ground. But I've got to protect

Page 58

1 the attorney/client privilege because that's the first
2 attorney he contacted and that's the first attorney who
3 had acted as an attorney in a relationship with Mr.
4 Ramsey.

Ramsey children's fund seems idle
Charity was set up after girl's slaying,
but kids' advocates aren't familiar with it
By Charlie Brennan and Kevin McCullen
News Staff Writers
February 21, 1999

BOULDER -- Two years after John and Patsy Ramsey formed a children's charity named for their slain daughter, there's little evidence it has aided anyone.

On Feb. 3, 1997, just over a month after JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in her parents' basement, family representatives announced the formation of the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation.

Its goal, according to a statement at that time by John Ramsey's business associate Laurie Wagner, is to "benefit children who are in a variety of needs."

A search two years later for signs that the foundation has helped anyone yielded little.

"I had never heard of the foundation," said Marsha Caplan, executive director of Voices for Children, a private nonprofit enterprise in Boulder County that provides advocates for children in civil cases. "I don't know of anybody who has benefited from it."

A Ramsey-family liaison, who would speak only on condition of anonymity, said the foundation has raised $14,000. He said most of the money has gone to causes that fit the guiding principles established by the family. But attorneys for the Ramseys declined to detail the foundation's finances.

The foundation has been registered as a nonprofit corporation with the Colorado secretary of state's office since April 1997. It lists a Boulder post office box as an address and John and Patsy Ramsey as the officers.

"We've never heard or seen anything about it," said Judy Houchins, executive director of the private nonprofit Child and Family Advocacy Program in Niwot, just northeast of Boulder. Her facility serves as a family-friendly place where police can interview children in abuse cases. It was used in January 1997 to interview JonBenet's then-9-year-old brother, Burke, and other Ramsey relatives in connection with the killing.

In Denver, the Ramsey Children Foundation's footprints are similarly scarce.

"I've never even heard of it," said Barbara O'Brien, president of the Denver-based Colorado Children's Campaign, a nonprofit child-advocacy group. "And I've never heard of any group that's ever been given a grant from it."

"We have not received any funds from them," said Phyllys Ransom, executive director of the Child Abuse Prevention Alliance of Gwinnett County. Gwinnett County, just northeast of Atlanta, boasts the state's largest school system, with 98,000 children.

"In all fairness, I was not aware of them as a children's foundation," Ransom said. "I was not aware that they even existed."

"Even families with much lesser means are actually able to create a foundation and have it do something in memory of their child," O'Brien said.

At the time of JonBenet's death, her father was president and chief executive of a computer software distributorship that notched more than $1 billion in sales in 1996.

"Having their resources," O'Brien said, "it's certainly within their ability to hire competent staff and at least get the groundwork laid. Two years would be plenty of time to do that."

Ramsey-family representatives referred questions about the foundation to Boulder attorney Michael Bynum, a lawyer who has handled a number of civil and business matters for the Ramseys over the past several years. Bynum did not return numerous calls or answer written inquiries concerning the foundation's activities.

Denver Rocky Mountain News
Foundation spent little on causes
Parents, lawyer give; little goes to causes
By Charlie Brennan, News Staff Writer
March 18, 1999

BOULDER -- The only significant contributions to a charitable foundation established in the memory of JonBenet Ramsey during its first year came from the slain child's parents and one of their lawyers.

The foundation's most sizable expenditures were for rent and the purchase of a computer, according to Internal Revenue Service records obtained by the Denver Rocky Mountain News.

The foundation's total revenue for 1997 was $12,567.

The News reported last month -- based on interviews with child advocacy officials -- that the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation had made no known contributions to child support groups either in Colorado or in Atlanta, where the Ramseys now live.

The IRS documents confirm that.

The single greatest expense reported by the group is a $4,546 computer "for keeping of the foundation's books" -- even though the foundation's end-of-1997 assets were just $5,380, barely more than the cost of the computer used to track those funds.

The documents show that the biggest contributors to the foundation were Patrick Burke, a criminal defense lawyer representing Patsy Ramsey. He gave $5,000.

John and Patsy Ramsey gave more than $5,000.

JonBenet, 6, was found beaten and strangled in her parents' basement Dec. 26, 1996. Her death is the subject of an ongoing Boulder County grand jury investigation.

Patsy and John Ramsey, president and vice president of the foundation, respectively, are suspects in their daughter's death but maintain they're innocent.

Calls on Wednesday to the group's treasurer, Gail Heinzman, were not returned.

When the foundation was formed in 1997, a Ramsey representative described its mission as being to benefit children who are in a variety of needs.

But the IRS records indicate efforts were directed elsewhere.

Apart from the computer purchase and $2,282 for rent of an office at Chrisman Construction, 5777 Central Ave., Boulder, the foundation has spent little money.

Its "charitable activities," as reported to the IRS, amounted to $769 given to CrimeStoppers "to assist their effort to obtain crime leads," and $596 on "advertising soliciting information into the murder of JonBenet Ramsey as a public service."

Amber Partridge, an administrative assistant at Chrisman Construction, said Wednesday that the Ramsey foundation no longer has an office at that address.

Proceeds from the Ramseys' book will go towards the Ramseys' legal expenses and the JonBenét Ramsey Children's Foundation.

The foundation was formed Feb. 3, 1997, with the goal of benefiting "children who are in a variety of needs," a Ramsey family spokeswoman said at the time.

By March of this year, the only known significant contributions made to the foundation came from the family itself and one of the family's attorneys.

IRS records showed the foundation's "charitable activities" amounted to $769 given to Crime Stoppers "to assist their effort to obtain crime leads" and $596 for "advertising soliciting information into the murder of JonBenét Ramsey."

The book lists the phone number of Craig Swan instead.

The reason for the mix-up: The investigation line is the same number as Swan's, except for the area code.

The investigation line is in the obscure 720 area code being used for new lines in the Denver area.

The correct tip-line number is 720-904-3739.

Mr. RAMSEY: We want the foundation to focus on protecting America's children against predators. I would like the murder of a child to be treated in this country as a federal offense. We don't today.

He was also sort of working the other side of the street, giving information from leads on a million-dollar reward. I mean, you can imagine what was coming in, and most of it was goofy, but a lot of it was solid.

For example, it was, it was "The Globe" that found the type of cord that was used in the garrote, and so I felt that I could not turn him away.

I have never talked to any other tabloid, you know. Thomas accuses me of dalliances with the tabloids. The only one I have talked to is "The Globe."
The only reason I talked to them is they had a million dollar reward. And they were producing information for us to pursue, most of it not good. But what are you going to do? Close the door? No.

WOOD: "You bet they did. And I will tell you, they had no choice. My clients, unlike Steve Thomas, my clients have had a three- year time period in which they have been subjected to the most vicious attacks. Just look at some of the things that have been said about this family. John and Patsy Ramsey have been accused in headlines of being everything from child molesters to drug addicts to murderers to pornographers. They had finally after the grand jury, I think, an obligation almost to come out and tell their side of the story, to tell the truth of what this family has been through. And they're not spending their money -- and I -- with all due respect to Mr. Thomas, I'm sure he's got more than a small house and a pick-up truck as an advance for this book -- but they're putting their money back into paying for the criminal investigation, the attorneys' fees and then the JonBenet Ramsey foundation. I'd like to ask Mr. Thomas what he intends to do with his money.

J. RAMSEY: "No, you put that book out to line your pockets with money based on our tragedy."

THOMAS: "No, that's not true. And as a matter of fact, I think you wrote a book as well and took money for that."

J. RAMSEY: "It's going to charity."

Tell me what...

THOMAS: "And I think you've also said it's going to a legal defense fund."

VIDEOTAPED INTERVIEW OF John Ramsey
2140 The Equitable Building, Atlanta Georgia
August 29, 2000

0031

22 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Mr. Ramsey, page
23 266 and 267 of your book, you quote a letter
24 you sent to Alex Hunter.
25 A. Okay.

0032

1 Q. The last full paragraph of that,
2 finally I am willing, it's on 267, I am
3 willing and able to put up a substantial
4 reward, $1 million, through the help of
5 friends if this would help drive the
6 investigation.

7 Now, did you ever put up $1
8 million reward?
9 A. No. I was advised that it
10 wouldn't make any difference.
11 Q. Who was it that advised you of
12 that?
13 A. My attorneys. That $100,000 was
14 a significant amount of money. And I didn't
15 have a million dollars at that point. I
16 would have had to gone to friends for help.
17 And if it wasn't significant, I wasn't going
18 to approach my friends for that kind of
19 help.

20 Q. Did you talk to anybody else
21 about whether the amount of money offered
22 would have any bearing?
23 A. Well, I never got a response from
24 Alex on that, but I don't remember that I
25 did, no.

0033

1 Q. Was there something about, in your
2 attorney's experience, that they cited --
3 MR. WOOD: I don't want to go
4 into anything further on that, about
5 attorneys. The things they cited to him,
6 would go into the privilege.
7 MR. KANE: Fine. No problem.

8 Q. (By Mr. Kane) What did you
9 think? What did your instinct tell you
10 about a million versus 100,000?
11 A. Well, in the beginning, I thought
12 that that would drive information. At the
13 beginning we couldn't get the police to even
14 acknowledge or participate in announcing a
15 reward. It was very frustrating.
16 And so we, you know --
17 Q. Do you have a reward outstanding
18 right now?
19 A. Yes. As far as I am concerned,
20 we do.
21 Q. I am sorry?
22 A. As far as I'm concerned, we do,
23 yeah.
24 Q. Is it publicized anywhere?
25 A. It is publicized on our internet

0034

1 site, I believe.
2 Q. Who maintains that?
3 A. Ollie and I guess -- you can do
4 that yourself and have an internet service.
5 Q. You understand there is a reward
6 that is listed on your internet site?
7 A. (Witness nodded head
8 affirmatively).
9 Q. Is that that ramseyfamily.com?
10 A. It was originally. We changed
11 the number. I guess that is still how you
12 access it. I think you access it both ways,
13 don't you? Ramseyfamily.com, and we also set
14 up a JonBenetinfo@AOL.com.
15 Q. JonBenetinfo --
16 A. -- @AOL.com. That's not a
17 website.
18 Q. That is an e-mail?
19 A. Right.

August 29, 2000

0047

17 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Mr. Ramsey, at the
18 present time, how much money is in the
19 JonBenet Ramsey Foundation?
20 A. I believe that is public record,
21 but I think there is about $7,000 in there.
22 Q. What is the highest balance that
23 you know of that it has been?
24 A. I don't know.

25 Q. Have you done any fundraisers to

0048

1 fund it?
2 A. No. It wasn't our intention to
3 raise public money.
I set up a foundation
4 for my other daughter, which still exists, by
5 the way. We were desperate to honor our
6 daughter in some way, and that was our
7 attempt to do it, and why we have been
8 criticized for that, I don't know.

9 Q. You put out a press release that
10 gave an address for contributions to be made
11 to the foundation.
12 A. I don't remember ever asking for
13 contributions.

14 MR. WOOD: Do you have a copy of
15 the press release?
16 MR. KANE: Yes. As a matter of
17 fact, I do.

18 MR. WOOD: Why don't you let him
19 see it.
20 THE WITNESS: I would like to see
21 it.
22 MR. KANE: I have what the Denver
23 Post has published as coming from your press
24 release.
25 MR. LEVIN: While he gets booted

0049

1 up on that just so that we don't waste time,
2 how about if I ask him questions on another
3 matter? Does that work for you procedurally?
4 MR. WOOD: Sure.
5 THE WITNESS: Can I respond to
6 that though?
7 MR. WOOD: Go ahead, John.

8 THE WITNESS: I am offended, and
9 I have been offended. I have been offended
10 that you investigated that foundation during
11 the grand jury. I have a mind to disband
12 it and treat it just as a private -- we
13 want to honor our daughter, and we have
14 received nothing but grief from you folks,
15 from the media over that attempt, and I am
16 baffled by that.

17 Q. (By Mr. Kane) I'll get it, but
18 I want to follow up on that, you made an
19 application for it to be a 503(C) charitable
20 foundation, haven't you?
21 A. Yes.
22 MR. WOOD: I think it actually
23 has been so designated.
24 MR. KANE: Has it been? That
25 was what I was going to ask you.

0050

1 THE WITNESS: Yes.
2 MR. WOOD: There was a mistake in
3 the book jacket cover that indicated an
4 application had been made. An application
5 for tax exempt status has been submitted, and
6 I remember someone called it to the attention
7 of the publisher that, in fact, it had been
8 granted. I don't sit here and represent
9 that I have seen it, but I do know that
10 information.
11 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Has any, to your
12 knowledge, any of the money that ever has
13 been in that foundation ever been given to
14 any charitable --
15 A. Yeah.
16 Q. -- or social --
17 A. Not to the level we would have
18 hoped.
I mean, our original plan was that we
19 were going to sue the hell out of the
20 tabloids and donate it all to the foundation
21 and do some very significant things. That
22 has been a tough process.
23 So we have not been able to do
24 with it what we hoped, but I hope some day
25 we can.

0051

1 Q. You did get money from the
2 public, though, that came in?
3 A. Very, very little.
I got -- the
4 most significant donations I got were from
5 two friends. One was the president of
6 Lockheed-Martin, sent $1,000, and my boss
7 sent $1,000. We probably received a few
8 very small checks.

0063

16 MR. WOOD: Did we ever find it?
17 MR. KANE: No. I can't put my
18 finger on it. I will send it to you.

19 THE WITNESS: Well, we have
20 never, knowingly to me, ever solicited any
21 funds from the public.
22 It was not the intent and is not
23 the intent. In fact, we may even not accept
24 funds from the public because of the
25 innuendoes that seem to be cast upon that.

0064

1 MR. WOOD: So that we are clear,
2 too, and Mr. Kane, you do not have this
3 alleged --
4 MR. KANE: I have --
5 MR. WOOD: Excuse me, let me
6 finish.
7 MR. KANE: Okay.
8 MR. WOOD: You do not have as
9 you represented or at least thought, you do
10 not have here today this public relations ad
11 or whatever you called it claiming that John
12 and Patsy were soliciting public funds? You
13 said you would look for it, and send it to
14 me.
15 MR. KANE: Yes. It is on my
16 computer somewhere, and I can't find it.

VIDEOTAPED INTERVIEW OF Patsy Ramsey
2140 The Equitable Building, Atlanta Georgia
August 29, 2000

0286

19 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Okay. The
20 JonBenet Ramsey Foundation, is that still in
21 existence?
22 A. Yes.
23 Q. Does it have any money in it?
24 A. A little.
25 Q. What is the most it has had in

0287

1 it since it was started? Do you know?
2 A. I don't know.
3 Q. Do you have any idea?
4 A. Not really. I don't keep the
5 books.
6 Q. Have you ever looked at the books
7 of the Foundation or looked at any kind of a
8 financial statement about it?
9 A. I don't know that I have. I
10 don't think so.
11 Q. Have you ever conducted any kind
12 of efforts to raise money for the Foundation?
13 A. No.

14 Q. Has the Foundation, to your
15 knowledge, ever spent any money on any of
16 the things that the purpose of it, you know,
17 is stated --
18 MR. WOOD: Other than what she
19 told you about back in June of 1998?
20 MR. KANE: I never asked anything
21 in June of 1998.
22 MR. WOOD: Are you representing
23 to me that the Foundation was never discussed
24 in June of 1998?
25 MR. KANE: I don't know if it

0288

1 was or not. I don't think it was.
2 MR. WOOD: Why don't you find
3 that out, and then we will decide whether to
4 answer it.
5 THE WITNESS: I think I --
6 MR. WOOD: Wait. He's going to
7 find out whether he discussed it or not.
8 MR. KANE: Okay. Here's
9 another --
10 MR. WOOD: I personally am
11 getting disgusted that we are talking about
12 the finances of the JonBenet Ramsey
13 Foundation when we are supposed to be talking
14 about information about the death of the
15 child. I just am getting to the point where
16 maybe I had enough.
17 Do you want to ask something to
18 move this investigation forward or do you
19 want --
20 MR. KANE: I feel this is moving
21 it forward.
22 MR. WOOD: I am sure you do,
23 sir.
24 MR. KANE: You know what, we are
25 the only law enforcement agency that has the

0289

1 authority to --
2 MR. WOOD: You are still a law
3 enforcement agent?
4 MR. KANE: I am under contract
5 with the Boulder D.A.'s office.
6 MR. WOOD: Do you have a copy of
7 that contract?
8 Are you being paid by the hour
9 for your time here or are you doing it pro
10 bono?
11 MR. KANE: No. I'm being paid.
12 I am being paid to be here.
13 Q. (By Mr. Kane) What, to your
14 knowledge, if any, money was spent for any
15 purposes that the Foundation was being set up
16 to advance?
17 MR. WOOD: This is your last
18 question on the Foundation unless you can
19 relate it to who murdered the child. I am
20 going to draw the line.
21 THE WITNESS: There have been
22 gifts donated if that's what you are asking.
23 Q. (By Mr. Kane) No, I'm not asking
24 about donations. I am asking about money
25 going out.

0290

1 A. That is what I am saying. There
2 have been gifts given to non-profits.
3 Q. Do you know what those are?
4 MR. WOOD: Didn't I just say that
5 we need to move on to another subject? I
6 think that --
7 THE WITNESS: I do know some of
8 them.
9 MR. WOOD: Can you go on to
10 something that will help us figure out who
11 killed the child?
12 MR. KANE: Lin, how do you, let
13 me ask you then, will you please define --
14 MR. WOOD: I mean, I'm so
15 disgusted at what you are doing, I am not
16 going to define anything for you, Mr. Kane.
17 MR. KANE: Well, then I have no
18 idea of whether any questions --
19 MR. WOOD: I don't think you have
20 any idea what is a relevant question in a
21 murder investigation.
22 MR. KANE: Now you're --
23 MR. WOOD: I just think I'm
24 just tired.
25 MR. KANE: I think you are right.

0291

1 MR. WOOD: It's been a long day
2 and I've had to listen to a lot of back and
3 forth. It's five minutes to 5:00. Maybe
4 I'm just wearing down. But, you know, why
5 don't we just close it up --
6 CHIEF BECKNER: Just keep going.
7 MR. WOOD: Why don't we close it
8 down for the day. 5:00 was my kind of cut
9 off time anyway. I don't know about you
10 all, but I am pretty tired.
11 MR. KANE: I can go on all
12 night.
13 MR. WOOD: Mr. Kane, that
14 doesn't -- I don't want to -- you may be
15 Superman, but I'm not.
16 MR. KANE: So are you saying you
17 want to stop it? Obviously --
18 MR. WOOD: No, I mean, I'm
19 just --
20 MR. KANE: Well, then tell me, do
21 you want to stop it or keep going?
22 MR. WOOD: My goal coming in was
23 to go to 5:00, and it's five minutes to
24 5:00.
25 MR. KANE: Okay. Five more

0292

1 minutes.

2 Q. (By Mr. Kane) All right. Since
3 I can't ask my questions about the
4 Foundation, I'll move on to something else.

VIDEOTAPED INTERVIEW OF John Ramsey
2140 The Equitable Building, Atlanta Georgia
August 29, 2000

0079

13 Q. (By Mr. Kane) Why did you write
14 the book?
15 A.
Needed the money. First of all,
16 we wanted to tell our story. We had been
17 lied about in the press for three years. We
18 wanted to address every one of the media
19 myths that were out there. We wanted one
20 place that the truth was encapsulated. And
21 we wanted to find the killer of our
22 daughter.
23 Q. So by publicizing information, you
24 thought it would generate --
25 A. Yeah.

0080

1 Q. Okay. Why did you decline to put
2 in anything about your own investigation?
3 A. One of the problems we had with
4 the book is it got way too big. I know
5 that. And we had to cut a lot.
6 Q. Why did you decide to cut that?
7 A. I don't know that we cut that at
8 all. I don't remember if it was in there
9 to start with.

Georgia-based foundation seeks tips on Ramsey case
By Sandra Fish, Camera Staff Writer
July 25, 2001

"Suzanne Goebel, a friend of Patsy Ramsey's and a "personal life coach" with Christian Leadership Coaching, is the registered agent of the new nonprofit."

The group apparently is soliciting donations online and through mailings to "constituents," according to information posted on Internet discussion groups.

"Today's ad isn't the first seeking information about JonBenét's death.

"The Ramseys, through the JonBenét Ramsey Children's Foundation, placed advertisements in the Daily Camera beginning in April 1997. That summer, the ads featured text and script from the ransom note left in the Ramsey house the morning of the crime. That foundation remains registered in Colorado."

VIDEOTAPED DEPOSITION OF PATRICIA PAUGH RAMSEY
Chris Wolf vs Ramsey civil suit

December 11, 2001 9:14 a.m.

Page 13

14 Q. (By Mr. Hoffman) Mrs. Ramsey, I
15 believe that you were the coauthor on a book
16 called "the Death of Innocence"; is that
17 correct?
18 A. Yes, sir.
19 Q. And I would just like to ask you, in
20 your own words, though I know there is discussion
21 in the book, why it is that you wrote the book
22 "Death of Innocence"?

23 A. My husband and I wrote the book so
24 that we could make sure that the truth was
25 presented accurately from our own hearts and lips.

Page 14

1 Q. Were there any other reasons?

2 A. No, sir.

Page 15

10 Q. (By Mr. Hoffman) Was the purpose of
11 the book also to present information to the
12 public who might then be able to come forward as
13 to who the murderer was in this particular case?
14 MR. WOOD: That doesn't have anything
15 to do with page 408.
16 MR. HOFFMAN: Well, it is mentioned
17 there. That is one of the stated goals.
18 MR. WOOD: We may just be parsing
19 words. This talks about their goals, bringing the
20 killer to justice.
21 MR. HOFFMAN: Right.
22 Q. (By Mr. Hoffman) Was this part of
23 your goal?
24 MR. WOOD: Was the book consistent
25 with part of your goals? I think that is a

Page 16

1 fair question.
2 THE WITNESS: So could you repeat the
3 question?
4 Q. (By Mr. Hoffman) You will be asking
5 me to do a lot of that today. Believe me.
6 Was one of the goals of writing the
7 book to help in the solution of this crime,
8 identifying the possible murderer; meaning that if
9 you put this information before the public, that
10 maybe someone would have information that could
11 then come forward --
12 MR. WOOD: Objection.
13 MR. HOFFMAN: You object?
14 MR. WOOD: I object to the form of
15 the question, but go ahead and finish. I thought
16 you were through.
17 MR. HOFFMAN: I would like Mrs.
18 Ramsey to explain whether or not that was part of
19 the goal of the book was basically to assist in
20 finding the killer of JonBenet Ramsey.
21 THE WITNESS: Well, I believe there
22 was a section of the book that talks about the
23 profile of the killer, as we have been told about
24 him. So that information, yes, was included in
25 the book to be brought forth to the public in

Page 17

1 the event that that would assist in someone
2 remembering things that would lead us to leads
3 that would lead us to the killer.
4 Q. (By Mr. Hoffman) So would it be
5 fair to say that the purpose of the book was to
6 do something other than just simply tell the
7 truth about the case, that there was -- that you
8 were trying to assist the investigation in some
9 way by including certain information in the book,
10 such as the profile of the murderer?

11 A. The reason that I wrote the book is
12 so that there is in one place, in black and
13 white, an accurate account of what happened.
14 I mean, when I was writing it, I was
15 thinking of my children and my grandchildren.
16 There are so many stories out there that are
17 false and misleading and untrue, I wanted -- you
18 know, I was thinking of this as a historical
19 document to give to my children.

When 'the system' falls short
Ex-investigator for Ramseys says case has eroded his belief in DA, cops, media, PR people, 'the entire cast of characters'

By Charlie Brennan, News Staff Writer
December 18, 2001

Private investigator Ellis Armistead's belief in many aspects of "the system" were shaken by his 3 1/2 years working for John and Patsy Ramsey.

"I don't have as much confidence in the system now," said Armistead, in the first interview he has given in the case. "And, when, I say 'system,' I mean not just the police, but the entire system -- including to a degree, the media, to a degree the police, to a degree the prosecutors, to a degree the PR people, just the entire cast of characters."

Armistead, a 51-year-old Alabama native, was hired by the Ramseys' lawyers to work on the couple's behalf.
He quit the case June 2, 2000, one day before the family posted on the Internet a sketch of a possible suspect that was produced by a psychic.

(SNIP)

"It seemed to become a contest of who could be on television next, and I don't think that's where these cases belong," Armistead said. "I don't think that the clients belonged on TV. To me, it's nonproductive and took away from the focus of the case."

Armistead said the Ramseys' use of paid public relations personnel "was bizarre, to me," and that he voiced his opinion to the lawyers at Haddon, Morgan & Foreman.

"I think I expressed my concerns, along with several other people, that this was not in their best interests," he said. "I don't know that I ever really got a response."

Armistead said that, contrary to what many might believe, he was privy to very little firsthand information or evidence in the case, other than what he and other defense-team investigators developed.

(SNIP)

It was close to two years after the crime that he first saw crime-scene photographs.

(SNIP)

Armistead said his assignment, working for the Ramseys' lawyers, was not to solve the crime. It was to keep the Ramseys from being arrested.

"I was alert to the fact that there's no getting around the fact that many children who are killed are killed by their parents," he said. "It was not like I was naive. It wouldn't have changed how I did anything. It didn't really matter to me whether they did it or didn't do it.

"I saw my mandate as being to protect the Ramseys. At some point in time, there was some pressure to 'find the killer.' But I was not in a position to do that. I didn't have access to the evidence."

Jailhouse tipster is one of many - Authorities expect more as anniversary of JonBenet's death nears
By Sandra Fish, Camera Staff Writer
December 24, 2002

But a letter from Robert B. Cook's attorney to Ramsey family attorney Lin Wood earlier this month focused on confirming the size of the reward the Ramseys might offer for solving the crime. Dennis Shea, a Santa Barbara lawyer, twice mentioned a $1 million reward his client thought the Ramseys were offering, according to a fax of the letter the Daily Camera received Monday. It was unclear who sent the fax.

"That's some guy who claimed to have heard some jailhouse confession," Wood said.

"He said he doesn't think the family ever offered a $1 million reward but did offer $100,000 at one time."

Larry King Live - June 24, 2003
John Walsh from America's Most Wanted

WALSH: From the get-go. And then they empaneled a grand jury and brought DAs from every county around Colorado, and they all came to the same conclusion. They said whether the Ramseys had something to do with it or not, there was such poor police work was done in the beginning, this case will probably never be solved.

Parents have the right to get lawyers. They have the right to get -- you know, to have people represent them if they think the cops are doing a bad job.
I always wanted to do that case on "America's Most Wanted." And Mr. Ramsey said, I'd like to do it. Mrs. Ramsey said no. I said, I'll treat you fairer than anybody else in the world. Let me do a whole hour on "America's Most Wanted." But they're going to start over and take a re-look at the case. That's what I say you have to do. You have to throw everything out and start again.

KING: Are you open on it?

WALSH: I am open minded about it, because they only ever focused on the parents. A good investigation is a parallel investigation. Sweat the parents, but don't rule out the sexual offender that may be living within a mile of there.

Larry King Live - May 12, 2004
Antrim City, Michigan
John and Patsy Ramsey guests

KING: Let's take a call for the Ramseys. Salt Lake City, Utah hello.

CALLER: Hi, Larry. Thanks for having me on.

KING: Sure.

CALLER: Mr. Ramsey, you talk about giving back to the community, in your book "Death Of Innocence," you talk extensively about the JonBenet Ramsey Foundation. That foundation was closed, virtually did nothing. Yet in the book, it still says the proceeds from the book sales are going to the JonBenet Ramsey foundation. I wonder if you can explain that. And also, could you please tell everybody that in the civil case, the judge was only presented what Lynn Wood, your civil attorney showed him -- showed her -- and without benefit of the actual police files. I will hang up and listen. Thank you so much.

J. RAMSEY: I'm sorry. I didn't hear the second part of that question. But regarding the foundation we set up for JonBenet in her honor, we did the same for our daughter, Beth, when she died in 1992. It's a compassion that just, I think, flowed out of us. We weren't sure what we were going to do with it, but we wanted to do something to honor her name.

With Beth, our plan was to get the family together once a year and make a decision of what we could do with what we had available to give and make that a family decision. Certainly we set that up with JonBenet. That was our plan as well.

We have done some of that, not to the extent that we hoped. Frankly, we had hoped we could recover substantial damages from a lot of the very slanderous and wrong stories put out there about us. We did recover some things, but most of those were on behalf of our son, Burke. And so we've not yet, I think, done justice to what we had intended in our hearts for that to be.

P. RAMSEY: This week, however, we did present $1,000 worth of scholarships to Mount McSauba Day Camp here in Charlevoix, Michigan, where JonBenet and Burke both attended day camp. JonBenet was the camper of the year one summer. And we were very happy that the foundation was able to provide some scholarship money for campers this year.

Antrim City, Michigan
John and Patsy Ramsey guests

For those who missed the Larry King Live show on May 12, 2004, you can download a short captured video segment when the caller from Salt Lake City asked John Ramsey about the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation and about the Judge Carnes civil suit decision and how the evidence produced for that suit did not include the official police files. John Ramsey didn't answer the second question as he claimed he didn't hear it.

Caller questions Ramseys
on JonBenet Foundation

But a statement made on the show by his wife, Patsy, has triggered an outcry from those who question the existence of a foundation established in the name of their daughter, JonBenet, who was murdered Dec. 26, 1996. The murder has not been solved.

John and Patsy Ramsey appeared on "Larry King Live" May 12, the day after Ramsey officially announced his candidacy for the 105th District state House seat, a district that includes Charlevoix, Otsego, Antrim and Cheboygan counties.

A caller to the show questioned the Ramseys about a foundation they established in the name of JonBenet Ramsey. Referring to statements made in the book written by John and Patsy Ramsey called "The Death of Innocence," the caller said the foundation mentioned in the book was closed and "virtually did nothing."

Patsy asserted the foundation does exist and is still making contributions in JonBenet's name.

"This week, we did present $1,000 worth of scholarships to Mount McSauba Day Camp here in Charlevoix, where JonBenet and Burke both attended day camp," Patsy told Larry King and millions of viewers.

It may be a question of semantics, but the fact is that the Ramseys didn't make a donation to the Camp McSauba scholarship program until Thursday, May 27. Camp McSauba Director Ike Boss said he received a check for $1,000 from the JonBenet Ramsey Children's Foundation that evening.

"Fleet and Priscilla White have been good friends to us. We are gratified to know that the Boulder Police Department has officially cleared them as suspects in the murder of our daughter. We hope that this announcement will give them some relief from the terrible stress of this situation. It is also our hope that the Boulder Police Department will continue to clear the names of all those who have been unfairly tainted by suspicion."
